Does this affect me?

If you arrived in the United States through Uniting for Ukraine (U4U); Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans (CHNV); or family reunification parole (FRP), this pause stops USCIS from completing applications for any additional immigration benefits and further status change applications.

USCIS will continue to process previously filed applications, but no new cases will be decided until this pause is removed or ruled illegal by the courts. Filings specifically affected by this pause include parolee asylum, Temporary Protected Status, employment authorization, advance parole, adjustment of status, naturalization, but also affects all other applications.

Legal Implications

Applications filed by individuals who entered through any of the aforementioned programs will no longer be processed, therefore individuals who have parole periods expiring soon may face delays in status change and risks of detention and deportation. There is no current timeline as to when this pause may be lifted or challenged. Most people can still file applications at this time. You should speak with a legal professional to determine if it is in your best interest to still file.
